During this conversation we will determine whether physiotherapy is the right approach. Terms and conditions, consent and referral forms will be sent via email to be completed prior to the first appointment. If physiotherapy is appropriate an initial appointment will be arranged at your home or your child’s school.
The initial appointment can take up to 90 mins, during this appointment goals will be agreed and set giving a clear time frame as to when they should be achieved and the best way in which to achieve those goals. We devise a treatment plan, discussing frequency and give advice of other activities that can help towards goals. We are always happy to work with NHS physiotherapy services and other professionals working with your child, so will liaise with school staff, occupational therapy, speech and language therapists and any other services that work with your child. We can teach you, carers, support staff in schools to carry out any programmes we devise. We can also provide reports if required.
The initial appointment comprises of discussion with you and where appropriate your child, aiming to find out what they can do and what is more challenging. Wherever possible we will set goals jointly with children and their families.
Depending on the age of the child and their condition we will make a thorough assessment of their strength, coordination, balance and range of movement. As far as is possible assessment and treatment is done through play and games to make this experience as enjoyable as possible.
